THE ART OF SEEING | Story, Space, Time

The Art of Seeing is a place where I invite you into my photography practice

The way I teach photography is by giving you a map. It's one that guides you, wherever you are at in your photography journey. It’s a map that works for beginners, those who are experienced but feel creatively lost – and it is still the very same map I use today.

It has 3 simple, repeatable parts  — Story, Shape and Time.

STORY
It's all about the Story. It's an invitation to observe, to notice, to share what you see. Then we choose one story,  And just like when writing a story, we include only what matters.

SHAPE
This is how we Shape the light. We make decisions about lenses, framing, composition, all the other techincal things, based on this one specific Story.

TIME
- when we press the shutter button, for how long for,  timing of the stars, the moon and sun.

So you wont need to understand all the photography terms, as that takes time. But everyone can connect with the idea of Story, Shape and Time. These are embodied,

A beginner may not understand aperture or focal length or dynamic range, but they already understand Story, Shape and Time instinctively because those are embodied concepts, not technical jargon.

that meaning comes first,
that technical decisions emerge from perception,
that coherence matters,
that humans learn through connection,
that story is orientation.
